But, some users seem to like 10 bits/per channel color in apps like CS6, because they say they see less banding on their screen between finer color graduations.

What model NEC display is it? Are you using CS6 (as most other image editing apps will not support 10 bit per channel color). I'd look at the Quadro 2000 at a minimum in the Nvidia Lineup if you want to go that route, as the Quadro 600 is slower and has more limited support in some apps.
